Double flared, concave face Olivewood tunnels made in a "Mayan" flared style. This means the front flare is considerably larger than the saddle (in this case, approximately 6mm) while the rear flare remains a standard flare size. This creates a great visual effect of a large face on the jewelry. The style itself is a traditional style of making plugs throughout several cultures, including not only those of clay and jadeite/green stones in Mesoamerica, but also some silver work of Southeast Asian cultures.

Made to order wood pieces are turned and hand finished one pair at a time here in our Richmond studio. Each piece of wood is carefully selected and each finished pair scrutinized against our very high standards. If a pair does not meet our standards, it will not be shipped. Some pieces may require more attention, especially the very tricky small sizes and the very time consuming larger sizes. Large pieces can sometimes take an entire day to carve and finish.

We may contact you individually if we have a question about a particular cut or color of a block of wood. Some blocks of wood have interesting variations or unique patterning hidden within it that are totally one of a kind and unexpected.

Important Sizing Information:
Wearing surface is between 10-12mm. Rear flares are between 1.5-2mm. Front flares are a full 6mm larger than the saddle. We welcome customization of wearing surface and flare sizings. If you would like to make changes, please add your comment to your order at checkout or Contact Us.
